I know everyone’s debating whether or not to listen to Christmas music already, but I am NOT HERE FOR THIS SO-CALLED THANKSGIVING ERASURE. Food, people you love, food, and just time to be thankful for what you’ve got. Why erase that? Did I mention the food??

There’s Halloween songs, there’s Hanukkah songs, and an endless amount of Christmas songs…but there’s no Thanksgiving songs. OR SO WE THOUGHT. I found some songs and invited them to the SOUNDSLIKEFEELSLIKE table. Here they are saying thank you for different reasons.

Highlights:

thank u, next – Ariana Grande
I’m not exaggerating when I say that this song changed my view of how to handle breakups. Heck, I like to think it prepared me. Gratitude changes endings from “I wish things could stay the same” to “Thank you for teaching me xyz, I feel prepared for the next thing,” which is exactly the message of the song. Look at the good and be thankful for the time that it happened, but be excited for what’s coming next.

thnks fr th mmrs – Fall Out Boy
Ok, sometimes saying “thank you” doesn’t have to be in a pleasant tone. In this song, Patrick Stump basically sings about breaking up with someone but being angry about it. Hey, people do crappy things to each other and in those situations, you gotta say “thanks for the memories, even though they weren’t so great.” Anything you need to let things go.

Thank You For Being a Friend – Andrew Gold
Yes, this is the theme song to Golden Girls. But that’s exactly it! How often do you say thank you to your friends for being your friend? I hope often! If not, send them this song and a Golden Girls gif of them all hugging. You gotta show the love to those that choose to be by your side.

Thank You Girl – The Beatles
Teenage me felt the Beatlemania that was unleashed into the world during the Beatles’ touring years. This song brings me back to that every time and it makes me doubly thankful because if not for my own Beatlemania, I wouldn’t have developed the reverence I have for artists that my favorite artists are fans of. (That’s the best way to find music btw.)

Thank You for the Music – ABBA
This song is low key the anthem of how much I love music. I’m always an emotional mess but ABBA just always gets me. “Thank you for the music, for giving it to me!” If that doesn’t spark butterflies in your heart, then you’re probably not a music person, just sayin’.
