For the record, I’ve always had the mentality that Valentine’s Day should celebrate more than romantic love. Like, I once hosted a live radio show in high school where I took requests and dedications on Valentine’s Day. It was fun, and further proof that I’ve been brimming with the need to share music with people for my entire life.
This year I’ve been oscillating between ‘let’s celebrate love in all its forms!’, ‘I’m too cool to ever fall in love, stupid boys ahahaha’, and ‘happy, kissing couples are gross and I never wanna be part of one!!’ (Disclaimer: I promise you I’m working on myself to develop a healthy attitude about romantic love. I’m talking with the Lord k?)
Anyway, I made a playlist for those of us that are being inundated with marketing messages about love and dating and really don’t want to be part of the narrative. All who are weary, lonely, annoyed, getting over their ex, etc.: here’s some great moody bops about being over the charade of romance! Perfect for dancing out any and all feelings! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Highlights:
–For the annoyed, ‘too cool to fall in love’ kids:
Crush Culture by Conan Gray – This song inspired the whole playlist for me. In the past, I’ve been the type of person that loves the idea of falling in love so much!! but right now, I’m sick of obsessing over it and I do not want any opportunity for that. So yeah, I’m one of these kids. I’m sick of the kissing cult.

Party For One by Carly Rae Jepsen – Anyone who’s really going through it, I’m so sorry, my dude. Breakups suck, no matter how long you dated. But I can’t stress enough how important it is pick up your tears to dance. You gotta believe that you’re gonna be back on your beat soon. But for now, get mad, get sad, get drunk, miss them, look for the lessons, and then decide that you’re headed into a new chapter. It gets better, so start believing that it will now!
